“We are appalled and saddened by the horrific tragedy in Atlanta, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families. NAB strongly condemns the alarming resurgence of attacks, harassment and discrimination against Asian Americans, and we have committed resources for broadcasters providing comprehensive coverage of hate crimes. America’s local radio and television broadcasters and network partners are dedicated to creating awareness, working with community leaders and providing a voice for vulnerable communities to help put an end to this disturbing outbreak of violence.”
NAB has updated its Awareness in Reporting toolkit with resources from Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC to help broadcasters report on the Asian American community as well as cover the wave of hate crimes against Asian Americans. Guidance from the Asian American Journalists Association to newsrooms regarding coverage of the Atlanta shootings is also available through the toolkit.
The National Association of Broadcasters is the premier advocacy association for America’s broadcasters. NAB advances radio and television interests in legislative, regulatory and public affairs. Through advocacy, education and innovation, NAB enables broadcasters to best serve their communities, strengthen their businesses and seize new opportunities in the digital age.
