President & Executive Director

Oregon Association of Broadcasters

John Tamerlano has been named President and Executive Director of the Oregon Association of Broadcasters, effective February 1, 2018.  The OAB represents 235 local radio and television broadcasters in Oregon.

“It’s a great pleasure to announce John’s appointment,” said Bob Singer, Chairman of the Oregon Association of Broadcasters Board of Directors. "The OAB had been under contract with the Washington State Association of Broadcasters as managers of our association for the last two years. The board voted unanimously to operate our association independently, as we had in the past, and I thank the members of the board for making the decision."

Mr. Tamerlano most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of KATU-TV (ABC) and KUNP-TV (Univision) in Portland, Oregon. While under its former owner (Fisher Broadcasting, Inc.) John served as Regional Senior Vice President, overseeing station operations in Boise, Idaho, Bakersfield, California, Eugene, Oregon and the Tri-Cities, Washington.

John is originally from Cleveland, OH and attended Bowling Green State University.  He began his television career in 1979 as a Sales Account Executive with WPGH-TV in Pittsburgh, PA, and became that station’s Local Sales Manager in 1980.  In 1984, as General Sales Manager, he helped launch a new sign-on station, WRGT-TV in Dayton, Ohio.  John returned to Cleveland in 1984, where he was the General Sales Manager for the ABC Scripps-Howard station and the NBC Gannett Television station. He was recruited to Portland, Oregon in 1999 by Lee Enterprise’s CBS affiliate, KOIN-TV, to serve as Director of Sales and Research and oversaw the local sales efforts for their sister stations.

Mr. Tamerlano recently served on the Oregon Association of Broadcasters Board of Directors and was on the ABC Network and TvB Sales Advisory Committees. He is also a board member of Make A Wish Foundation of Oregon and the American Red Cross of Oregon.

Online Public File Implementation

March 1, 2018 is the deadline for radio stations to implement the Online Public File—noncommercial educational radio stations and commercial radio stations in the Top 50 Nielsen audio markets with less than five fulltime employees must complete the uploading of their public inspection file to the FCC’s online file by this date. Those in this “last wave” of stations moving their public files online do not have to upload their Political File by this date, but must at a minimum commence uploading their Political File documents to the FCC’s online public file on a going-forward basis beginning on this date.
