KPTV is a Fox-affiliated television station licensed to Portland, Oregon. Owned by Atlanta-based Gray Television, it is part of a duopoly with Vancouver, Washington-licensed MyNetworkTV affiliate KPDX.
Job Summary/Description:
KPTV Fox 12, the market leader in Portland, Oregon, is looking for a new member of our engineering staff. With a 100+ member news team originating over 90 hours of content per week and two full power transmitters, our engineers keep busy while maintaining a good work/life balance. Candidates must possess good interpersonal communications skills, both oral and written, and be fully computer literate. Daily responsibilities include troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing broadcast and IT equipment, project management, and surefooted support of production operators in the event of on-air equipment malfunction.
Experience:
Duties/Responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
• Maintenance of the technical facility including studio support, post editing systems, field production support and transmission of live/taped events & programs
• Work closely with the station’s staff and corporate leadership to implement new technologies for the business as a whole
• Lead the design and integration process of new or replacement systems
• Help maintain documentation
• Lead and mentor junior engineers and production personnel
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Previous experience administrating/supporting NRCS and MAM systems
• Previous work experience in TV Broadcast Engineering
• Practical knowledge of broadcast signal flow with the ability to quickly identify key points of failure and bypass faults with minimal system down time
• An understanding of modern automated control room environments
• Experience with video routing and multiveiwer systems, video servers, character generators, and video terminal equipment
• Work comfortably using the latest operating systems software, including networking, server and desktop operating systems
• Able to work alone at times
• Ability to work under inclement weather conditions
• Technical skills with the ability to diagnose and repair common broadcast equipment
• Familiarity with cable fabrication techniques, including XLR, BNC, RJ45 and similar ethernet connectors
• Able to safely handle equipment and tools weighing 50 pounds
• Availability to occasionally work outside of normal daytime hours
• Must have a clean driving record and valid driver’s license
