KBOO MISSION
KBOO is an independent, member-supported, non-commercial, volunteer-powered community radio station broadcasting from Portland, Oregon. Since 1968, our core mission has been to provide training and access to the airwaves for locally produced music, arts, news and public affairs programming. KBOO is a multicultural and progressive organization that prioritizes serving communities that are underrepresented and underserved on other local radio stations. JOB SUMMARY
The KBOO Station Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the organization by working with the board of directors to establish goals, strategies, plans and policies. Key functional leadership responsibilities include human resources management, revenue development, financial viability and operational capability while ensuring that KBOO’s mission continues to be fulfilled.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
Ideal candidates will have three or more years’ demonstrated successful experience as a strong leader in all areas of people management that include coaching, mentoring, evaluating, as well as performance appraisals, employee relations and progressive discipline.

Additional background advantageous for this position includes managing staff in a union organized environment, non-profit management, development/fundraising experience and broadcasting industry exposure.

● Possess a leadership style that is positive, collaborative and team-oriented.
● Excellent listening, oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
● Knowledge of human resources best practices and procedures
● Ability to address complaints and resolve problems.
● Ability to work with a wide variety of people in a diverse workplace.
● Ability to plan, delegate and organize people to meet organizational goals and objectives; project management skills.
● Ability to manage within a budget, and approve expenses accordingly

WORK ENVIRONMENT
KBOO is a non-profit with a small staff and a large contingency of volunteers from diverse backgrounds. The office has a stimulating and fast-paced work environment comprised of award winning professional broadcasters and support staff with longstanding careers invested in KBOO. Community volunteers run a vast majority of the airtime with established and special programming. KBOO office hours are M-F, 9am-5pm, while some operational activities occur outside these hours.

BENEFITS
KBOO offers medical and dental insurance within 30 days of hire and 100% paid premiums for the employee, dependents may be added with a cost; 10 days paid vacation and 10 days paid sick leave (increases in 3rd year); 11 paid holidays; 401(k) after one year when KBOO contributes 3% of salary; long-term disability and life insurance; 10 days paid bereavement; unpaid 3 month sabbatical after 5 years.

We also have casual dress, free coffee, flexible schedules, and are located in inner SE Portland.
